2006 Come-See-Me Community Service Merit
Award Winners
ØCarolyn Burris—Rock Hill resident. Nominated by 6 people. Ms. Burris has been a volunteer in her community for 35 years. She has shaped and influenced the lives of young girls through the Rock Hill Twirlettes. She has been an outstanding example by using her own automobile as a taxi to get these young people involved in community service projects and helping them have higher values in their life. She is very active in her Church. She has been a mentor and a life changing example to many Rock Hill young people for 35 years by doing rather than just teaching! |
Ø Margaret Childs—lives in Rock Hill. Ms. Childs has been an active volunteer for 17 years in the York county area. She work with the Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America Troop 277, volunteers at Sullivan Middle School, Northwestern High and St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Ms. Childs has given over 1,173 hours of volunteer service. Ms. Childs is known as a strong leader and a role model to other volunteers. |
Ø Harold “Bo” Coleman is a Rock Hill
resident. 30 years ago, Mr. Coleman helped organize and found the organization we all know as HOPE Inc. He can still be found on most weekday mornings assisting the needy of our community in various ways through this organization. Volunteers at HOPE consider “Bo” to be the “in charge” person because he is such a vital part of this organization. “Bo” uses his personal auto and resources to go the extra mile to help individuals that need rides or hotel rooms. He is also known as a quite, gentle man with such a servants’ heart and never wants recognition for himself. |
Ø Sarah Morgan came to Rock Hill from Glen Ellen, Illinois in 1980. Sarah has become synonymous with community service since arriving in her “Southern Home.” In the past 25 years, Ms. Morgan has volunteered at Ebinport School, Rawlinson Road School, Northwestern High. She works with the Northwetern Booster Club, Newcomers Club, St Anne’s Catholic Church and has won the Carol Fields Award given for outstanding support of Newcomer Club activities. Sarah is still active in the RH PRT’s Cherry Park Advisory Committee and Rock Hill Clean & Green Board of Directors. Ms. Morgan is known as an avid Gamecock and has served as part of the RH Come See Me Festival events. |
ØSharada Pitts—Rock Hill resident. Ms
Pitts impact on the community has been felt by the clients and staff of Catawba Care Coalition, Inc. She has procured supplies, volunteers for this organization. She gives of her time to to assist those living with HIV/AIDS. She is a vital part of the CCC during crisis. She has positively impacted the students in our community by providing education and information about HIV/AIDS. Ms. Pitts is very active in AmeriCorps with Winthrop University, Restoration Ranch, Rolling in Rock Hill and tutors elementary students at Sunset Park and Sullivan Middle Schools |
